Abrie Koupal, CNM, MSN
Co-Owner, Clinical Director & Midwife
Abrie (she/her) attended a friend’s birth in 2009 and the experience changed her forever. Leaving a career in cross-cultural education to pursue midwifery, Abrie became The Birth Center of Boulder’s first Student Midwife in 2015 and joined staff as a midwife soon after. Empowering families during this life-changing journey and sending them off into parenthood with the confidence that comes from surrendering to the humbling strength and wisdom within their bodies is, and always will be, a deep honor. She also loves having the opportunity to offer continuity of care as clients return for annual visits. Still an active part of the midwife team, Abrie now also serves as BBHH’s Clinical Director, and relishes endless opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and communication amongst the clinical team. As co-owner of BBHH, Abrie, is eager to expand health services to better serve the community, and to safeguard this unique model of care for years to come. When not working, she can be found playing in the mountains with her entrepreneurial husband, son and daughter (both born at BCOB), and Kyrgyz street dog.
Amanda Boni
Co-Owner & Practice Manager
Amanda (she/her) began her career in healthcare as an EMT in 2012. Shortly thereafter, she became aware of the disparities in access to healthcare and the great lack of compassion inherent in the system at large. Driven by a desire to be able to play a bigger role in patient advocacy and to foster a culture of kindness, Amanda has excelled in various obstetrical clinic settings, in and out of the hospital. Since joining BCOB’s administrative team in 2018, she has been dedicated to learning everything about managing a birth center including the clinical, administrative, operational, medical billing, and payor relations considerations. Passionate about the empowerment of out-of-hospital birth, Amanda has also worked as a birth doula. As co-owner of BBHH, Amanda is dedicated to actualizing this beautiful vision of a whole family centered healthcare model that will empower families to make informed, collaborative healthcare decisions. Her deep belief is that this model will persist for years to come and change the lives of our communities from this generation to the next.
Tessa Kaczor, IBCLC
Lead Administrator
Tessa (she/her) has worked in reproductive health for well over a decade. Fortunate to have had access to midwives for the birth of her first child, Tessa was struck by the stark contrast of midwifery care compared with standard OB/GYN care when speaking with other new parents about our different experiences after birth. Her second child was one of the first ten babies born at The Birth Center of Boulder, and she feels the support she received in the midwifery model for both her births taught her to trust her own body and instincts in birthing, parenting, and beyond. Tessa’s wish for every family is to come through this experience feeling seen, respected, and strong. She is honored to work with and support a team that cares deeply about our clients and practices evidence-based, collaborative care. Tessa is also an IBCLC and is dabbling in birth photography. Outside the birth center, she can likely be found dancing, cooking, doing art with her daughter, or near a body of water.
Liz Wiig, LMT
Outreach Coordinator
Liz (she/her) has over two decades of experience working with organizations that engage in deeply transformative work. Her background includes relationship management, business administration, event planning, and program directing and facilitation. In addition, Liz is a bodywork practitioner, focusing on therapeutic deep tissue, prenatal/postpartum, lymphatic drainage, infant, and aromatherapy massage. She has spent over a decade helping her clients unravel issues in their bodies and take the edge off of chronic stress and tension. Liz attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, and holds a BA in Language Studies with a focus on Italian and attended Boulder College of Massage Therapy. She is enthusiastic about supporting clients and colleagues along their personal and professional journeys and finds immense joy in connecting others with life-enriching experiences.
