Lactation & Infant Feeding Support
Our lactation team sets you up for success with prenatal education and ongoing, hands-on support after your babe’s arrival - no matter what your infant feeding plan may be.
Prenatal Consultations
Set yourself up for success before your babe arrives with a private prenatal consultation with one of our talented and compassionate IBCLCs. Educate yourself on the basics of infant feeding, make sure you have the proper equipment, and address your unique questions and concerns. This visit is especially recommended if this will be your first time breast/chestfeeding, or if you experienced challenges feeding a previous child.
Expert Lactation Support
The early days and weeks with a newborn are simultaneously exquisitely tender and exquisitely challenging as you and your baby learn all about each other and adjust to your family’s new normal. In-home or clinic visits with one of our expert lactation consultants can help you stay on or get on track with your infant feeding goals.
Infant Feeding & Beyond
Lactation support isn’t just for the immediate postpartum. Seek lactation support at BBHH for nearly anything you can think of including suspected oral ties, feeding twins or premies, sleep concerns and night weaning, back-to-work planning, lactation induction, tandem feeding, introducing solids, and more.
Families do NOT need to be planning a birth center birth to benefit from BBHH lactation services.
Join our drop-in Milk Cafe infant feeding group for community building and expert IBCLC facilitation: Wednesdays 10:30-12:30 in the BBHH Classroom. All families are welcome.
What To Expect at Your Visit
-
Initial visits are approximately 2 hours long, with return visits of 90 minutes. Visits may occur in the home, at our clinic, or virtually and may include any or all of the following: feeding observation, weight check, physical exam, oral function exam/evaluation for possible oral ties, guidance on latch and positioning, weighted feed, pumping observation, pump and flange fittings, feeding assessment, and general counseling and education. The visit location will depend on the age of your baby, your location, the nature of your concern, and IBCLC availability.
-
You will receive an email with a summary of what we discussed and a care plan that includes relevant resources and videos. Reports can be made available to your pediatrician upon request. Clients are able to text our IBCLCs with small questions for the remainder of their nursing journey as part of the fee. If deemed appropriate, another consultation or series of consultations may be necessary.

Lauren Shuler, IBCLC
Lactation Consultant
Like so many before her, Lauren (she/her) first developed a passion for breast/chestfeeding after having her first child. This passion eventually pushed her to put a hold on her career as a professional engineer and pursue lactation after the birth of her second child. She is especially passionate about equity in the lactation and infant feeding space and is working to improve the quality of and access to care for everyone, especially those in historically marginalized communities. In an effort to provide the best care possible to all her clients, Lauren continually participates in trainings led by and focused on LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC cultural competency and care. Lauren is an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), professional engineer, board member on the Northern Colorado Breastfeeding Coalition, racial equity co-facilitator for local government, and a volunteer victim advocate. In her practice, she works to give parents support, education, and confidence in meeting their chest/breastfeeding goals, whatever those may be. Lauren lives with her partner, two kids, and two cats.
